Afropunk Brooklyn 2016

Afropunk Brooklyn 2016

Afropunk 2016 was beautiful. I love feeling the energy and love that comes with a crowd that is so diverse and powerful. From the performance to the beautiful souls who roamed the grassy areas of Commodore Barry Park on Saturday, August 27th it was all good vibes. I unfortunately left my professional camera at home thinking they wouldn't allow interchangeable lens cameras as per the info on their site (boy was I wrong, there were cameras everywhere). Although these images goes to show how the quality of my small point and shoot, Sony RX100 III still provided bomb ass pictures.

I'm very happy that I got to attend Afropunk for the first time even if it was just for one day, I'll most definitely be attending again next year. Sometimes a good positive experience is all you need to reboot on inspiration. The fashion, the hair and the message was evident and I'm glad I was able to capture some of the lovely souls I came across.

Afropunk is described by The New York Times as β€œthe most multicultural festival in the US,” it promises an eclectic line-up and an audience as diverse as the acts they come to see. This statement couldn't be anymore true, I felt it in the air the second I walked in.

Things to bring (for next year):

Refresh spray of choice for your hair.

Paper towels and wipes (to clean hands).

Positive attitude and a great outfit.

Picnic Blanket.

Camera.

Cash.
